Exploratory Software Testing

Im gleichnamigen Buch von James A. Whittaker wird beschrieben, wie man sich – ähnlich wie bei einer Stadtbesichtigung – bestimmte Touren vornehmen kann, die dann später auch leichter nachvollziehbar sind.

Viele dieser Touren können auch in Szenario-basierte Tests eingebaut werden – der Anfang und das Ende spielen sich wie im Szenario  beschrieben ab, dazwischen kann eine gut nachvollziehbare Abzweigung auf eine Tour erfolgen, an deren Ende wieder auf den im Szenario beschriebenen Weg zurückgekehrt wird.

Bei Microsoft wird diese Touren-Metapher von einigen Entwicklungsteams seit vielen Jahren erfolgreich angewendet.
